Q: What the heck is a WOD? and what's with the peoples names i.e. Cindy, Fran, Nate etc?
A: WOD is the "Workout Of The day" Everybody who trains at CrossFit Unreal does the WOD unless they are doing goal specific training i.e. Olympic Lifting etc. Some of the workouts are affectionately named after the people that made them up, or after fallen Soldiers who participated in the CrossFit program. Naming a workout gives it a personality, is a sign of respect and instinctually means something to the people that do it. Ask any CrossFit athlete what they think of "Helen" or "Fran" and watch them cringe ;-)
Q: I don't understand how to do, or what the movements are? What's a Thruster? What the hell is a Hang Clean?
A: The WOD we post everyday is not for the general public to try and attempt, at there own gym or at home. If you don't understand what the workout means or the names of the exercises then you definitely should not be doing them unsupervised or on your own. We post the WOD for our clients and the people that participate in Our CrossFit program it shows us where we have been and helps us know where we are going, it also gives the public a glimpse of what goes on at CrossFit Unreal. Want to know what the exercises are and how they work, get of your toosh come in to the studio, learn from our trainers and find out all about it.
Q: The training you do looks really hard! I don't think I'm fit enough to do that.
A: The training we do when done at high intensity and as prescribed, is easily some of the hardest fitness training you will find on the planet. However the training is also universally scalable, which means that elite athletes and Grandparents who have never exercised before are able to train the same way. We scale load, time, movements and intensity to maintain safety and ensure that each individual works at their own pace and within their own psychological comfort threshold.
Q: Can anybody train at CrossFit Unreal or do I have to be an athlete?
A: The majority of people that train at CrossFit Unreal are members of the general public, we never exclude people on ability only on attitude! ;-)
